Issue with network access on xp pc on home lan?

i have a home lan with 5 pc's, router with cable modem. all pc's are on the same subnet and the router gives each a proper ip address. i'm using a workgroup and all pc's are on the same workgroup name ''mshome''. all pc's can access the internet and ping each other.

i have one xp pc with an issue. when i look in the MY NETWORK PLACES icon and use VIEW WORKGROUP COMPUTERS, i can't see any pc's listed including this one on the network. when i share a folder in this xp pc, i still don't see any pc's. i've uninstalled all firewall and anti virus software. i've disabled windows firewall and still nothing. other pc's can see the network BUT can see this XP pc. something is blocking the VIEW WORKGROUP COMPUTERS feature.

any ideas?

If the other computers can see you but you can't see them, something is set up differently on your problem machine. It could be something as simple as the workgroup being misspelled. Also, when you enable file sharing it turns on the Windows firewall so make sure that is still off.

Try going into your Guest account and see if you still have the problem. If you use the same name on 2 computers in the network you can cause this problem.

I have seen multiple recommendations to turn the ''simple file sharing off'' and take ownership of the shares, but I have never had much luck with that solution.
