well Every time I leave the computer for longer than 5 minutes idle it normally displays the screen saver . It still does now , but I want to find out is, why it keeps freezing with just the background image on the screen and nothing else apart from the mouse cursor (still moves) ?

I'm guessing its a kinda conflict between the Anti Virus/spyware software

Are you sure, your screensaver is not a malware/spyware ? is it from trusted source that doesn't misutilize your resources ?

Disable your Screensaver and let it for several minutes, if it freezes again, it's not due to screensaver but other programs running behind screen.

Else your screensaver could be marked, :(

If you are not seeing any taskbar or icons in Windows , try to see TaskManager (Alt+ctrl+del) if any process is disfunctioning .
