I have an old computer that doesn't even have SP2 on it, only the original WinXP Home. We got it in 2002, and every time I turn it on nowadays (it is online) it is really slow and I know it's because it's getting bombarded with tons of spyware and viruses that it can't fight off.
I got a new laptop about a year and a half ago and have SP2 and most of the security updates on a disk that can be used to install them on any computer. I will do system restore on the old one, and use those updates from the disk, install anti-spyware and anti-virus programs and try to get it to a current XP software level before connected it to the internet.
Do you have any more suggestions so I don't have to do system restore a bazillion times?
Thanks in advance, I just really wanna save my computer lol
My computer is old (2002), how should I go about restoring the software to current Windows XP specs?internet security software
Reformatting means wiping the disc completely - removing everything so it's blank. That means you get rid of all the junk that has accumulated on it over the past five years.
Just save any files you don't want to lose onto a few of cds or email them to your laptop, reformat the hard drive (wipe it clean), then install XP and antivirus and reload your old files (make sure you install a good antivirus first in cast they're carrying anything with them!)
